Virginia Tech vs. Boston College

Virginia Tech vs. Boston College
Complete domination. Although many were negative going into the game, whether about Tyrod Taylor, Stinespring, or the results Boston College games in past years, the #5 football team in the nation finally had a complete game. Not only was the stellar defense and special teams in effect, but the offense also had a game for the record books. The offense put up thirty four points just in the first half showing all non believers that is could actually happen, Tyrod Taylor could actually pass. Tyrod Taylor had a personal record tying game, completing seven out of ten passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns. Freshman Ryan Williams ran for 159 yards in just 18 carries, going for more than a hundred yards for the fourth time this year. Tech piled up 441 yards of offense behind a balanced attack mainly because of these two, but also with the contribution of backup quarterback Ju-Ju Clayton and other players.
Head coach Frank Beamer was also very impressed with the game, he was Quoted saying, “It was a good day, that’s for sure,” Tech head coach Frank Beamer said. “We hadn’t had one like this in a while. It seems like every game last year went down to the wire, and a lot of games this year have gone down to the wire. But we beat a good football team that we certainly respect and will end up winning its share of games.”
Defense as always also played a major part in the victory over Boston College. The ranked defense held the opponent to a mere 3 yards in the first half, all of which came on a ten yard run to end the second quarter and to get them out of negative yards. The defense also racked up three sacks, seven quarterback hurries and had two interceptions! The defense has recently became more determined when defensive coordinator posted a sign on each defensive players locker that read, “Tech’s defense, which has finished first twice and fourth twice in the country in fewest yards allowed the past years, have yielded 364.3 yards per game and ranks 77th in the nation. The Hokies are tied for 107th against the run (200.3 yards per game). YOU HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO UPHOLD THE TRADITION.” This friendly reminder from their coach inspired and determined the defense to do better, recently the motivation has worked well.
After dominating Boston College in the first half, Head Coach Frank Beamer said, “It’s important to get that momentum,” Beamer said. “All of the pieces were fitting together. The offense was running smoothly, the defense held them and the special teams made a lot of good kicks. That’s the important thing – we were hitting on all cylinders. That’s what excited me.”
If Virginia Tech continues to play this good and with this much determination it is very possible to win the rest of the games this season. This great feat could possibly land them in a spot to play in the national championship and become the best team in the nation for the 2009 season. This accomplishment would be great for the team, the school, and the Hokie Nation.
